Rain-gutter Regatta

Tonight was the big night, the rain-gutter regatta.  It was a lot of fun.  We had 10 boys who built and raced boats and everyone got a lot of turns to run their boats.  Ethan's first turn on the course was a disaster.  He was disappointed, of course, and I felt bad for him.  Every other cub event he's raced in his vehicle has done poorly.  That's 3 pinewood derby's and 2 regattas for those who are counting.

They ran some races and then due to some technical difficulties started the whole thing over.  This really worked in Ethan's favor, during the first few runs he figured out a good blowing technique and after the restart he won every heat.

So...for the first time ever we had a winner.  For the first time ever we had a placing!  Ethan's a pretty gracious winner, he did have a great big smile though!!
I made these fabulous rice kripie boats for a treat, everyone brought something to share.  Lu helped me and we had fun making them.
