Don't buy a pattern. Here: http://thecraftsdept.marthastewart.com/2010/08/a-wee-wonderfuls-world.html (I have seen a TON of pictures of people's renditions of this doll online. Google "mermaid doll handmade" and you'll see it pop up a few times. It would also be very easy to print this pattern so it is bigger so your doll will be bigger than the 7" this pattern brings you to. AND you can omit the hair pieces and just use the yarn like you have been. Wee Wonderfuls is also very good at thorough instructions, so they are usually pretty fool-proof, and NO, I am NOT calling you a fool.)

I'll keep my eye out for more mermaid patterns, but these two looked like the best of the ones I've found. :)
