Smithsonian and Sierra

Tatum really loves dinosaurs.  She wanted to go to the dinosaur museum so today that's what we did.  We headed out around lunch time and drove to DC.  The weather this summer has been very not summery.  It reminds me of the first year we lived in Maryland, cool and rainy with an occasional hot day.  Today was a cool one, perfect for city fun.  We drove to the airport and left our car there, since Sierra was flying in in the evening and we would be picking her up on the way home, and hopped on the metro there.
Tatum and Grace were partners for the day.  They have not been getting along as well as on other trips.  Tate prefers to play with Hannah or Ethan.  Today they had some fun together though.
We enjoyed the museum.  Then went to ride the ferris wheel and even went to the art museum. I had never been to the art museum and it was not what I expected...maybe there is another one?  I was thinking paintings on the walls.  This one had different sections, like African art or Asian art.  It was mostly sculptures or things, like water vessels or posy holders.  It was very quiet (except for us) had lots of guards and few visitors. Poor Tatum set off the alarm twice for hopping on or too close to a piece.  Penny cried (she was tired by then).  Grace thought it was "inappropriate" and wondered if there were a section that "Mormons could look at without all the nak*dness."  Also at one point she wanted to sit down so she stood in front of a decorative bench for quite a few seconds and then said "is this art?" and wanted me to sit on it first to test it out, this was post the first alarm sounding.  We probably won't be heading back to that particular museum :)

Tate spotted a huge triceratops skull in the bushes outside the museum.  She wanted to collect it and take it home with her.  Then she said for her birthday she'd like a real live dinosaur that she could ride, the kind that eats plants so it wouldn't eat her :)
The girls enjoyed chasing pigeons around the mall.
After our museum fun we went to pick up Sierra!!! I haven't seen her in many months and was so happy to see her!

We ate at Chili's on the way home and now it's bed time.
I'm really grateful for this time and am looking forward to some fun filled days!
