the tale of the move/ or the timeline

Months ago Rob left his super secret whatever job and took a job (all of this is with Lockheed) building the airship. This was supposed to be a long term (20 year project) and we settled down for the long haul.  I applied for a teaching job, and got it. Mentally got my head in a long term, we are here for the duration, place.  It's been just shy of 3 years and we have friends and a nice backyard pool, and live a "short" drive from more than half of our grandchildren.

Then, in a sudden and surprising turn of events that are complicated but have something to do with Chinese goods tariffs and foreign funding, the airship was cancelled.

This left 70+ people looking for new jobs.  Including Rob.  By new jobs I mean still within Lockheed.  So he started to look.

KY was the first candidate.  He applied, we looked at houses on line and dreamed of derby day hats and green rolling hills.

Then Rob's boss told him about a job in FL.  And he applied for a position in MD.  He had interviews, we looked at houses on line in all three places.  I imaged working at St Marys City again, and going to Salsa's with friends.  I also imagined being the Fairy Godmother at the Disney breakfast buffet in Orlando and working to save the manatees. We went back and forth on where would be best.  We had riveting discussions about property taxes, state income taxes, sq footage, humidity, security clearances, proximity to the temple, STEM, job stresses, which kids might visit most often depending on where we live, where to fish, and every other tangentially related moving topic you can imagine.

Rob was really strongly leaning toward MD because KY said no, and the pay bracket after the COLA in FL is lower than CA's. So okay we were prepared for that, and the kids were excited and I told a couple of friends that we might be back.

THEN today the offers came in and in another huge surprising twist, FL's package was way better, and they are going to match his CA salary. They really want him.  MD also gave an offer but their package was not very good and that job is a super high stress one so I have been worried about it from the beginning (for Rob, I won't be stressed but I will live with a stressed Rob which is stressful).

THEN he went to work, two offers in hand, ready to decide and the big bosses here came to him and offered him a lead position here as a solid 6.  (what?!?!?!)

To say it's been C.R.A.Z.Y is an understatement.

At the end of the day though he wants to move, the kids are good with moving, the only sad part is leaving friends and leaving our "closeness" to Utah.  So he picked Florida and now those wheels are in motion.

  2. My goodness, what a whirlwind! I am jealous of the exciting adventure ahead of you (although, not all the work that goes along with moving).
