YWIE

Tonight was Young Women in Excellence. It was super nice. The girls planned it and each shared something they had been working on.

Grace and Sage sang a really pretty duet. I’m very excited to start working with them!

Other than that I took Luka to the vet for some shots and went and bought a chainsaw for Rob to take with him to hurricane clean up this weekend.

Hannah and Bub and I went for sushi after school. Those two were cracking me up. We had a very laughter filled lunch!

Oh and Grace and I took dinner to the Clark’s.

So it was a good day!

You know you live in Florida when...

Today I subbed a 3rd grade class. They were designated “gifted” and it was a delightful day. They were quiet and interactive and attentive.
One assignment they had was to read an article about autumn and then to write a paragraph about it. We brainstormed first so I asked them what they liked to do in autumn.
The first kid raised her hand and said “fall is nice because you can take a walk at night and it’s not too hot”.
The next child raised his hand and said “fall is the best time to go to Animal Kingdom because it’s not too hot for the animals”.
I laughed. Only in Orlando!

Tonight Rob and I went to the temple and chipotle with our friends Jon and Jennifer.

And in the end

Lol! In the end it all went fine. Prep day was icky. The actual procedure went smoothly. Hannah drove me there and back. I woke up easily. We stopped at the Waffle House on the way home and then I napped.
I felt kind of meh all day but  was able to rest and that was that.
Hopefully a non-event.

Prep day stinks

Update: this stinks.

I texted the girls and told them to send me cheer me up photos. This is what I got:

It’s almost worth it for those cute faces smiling at me!

Every time I leave the bathroom these two are waiting.

Sabbath

Ziva and I saw some friends on our walk this morning. She is not very observant and will walk by snakes, alligators and giant birds without seeming to see them.

She would never survive in the wild!

Church was very nice. The talks were good and my presidency and I were called and set apart. I am looking forward to getting to know them and the girls! I don’t know how glad Grace is to have me back in YW though.

Tomorrow is my colonoscopy so today is prep day. Yuck!

Rob had a veil assignement all day today.
Hannah worked.
Grace and I went to the store.

Tonight Tom and Diana, Isaiah and Jess and Mac came over. Makayla had her first swim and looked so cute in her little swimsuit. We had dinner, the men watched football and the women sat around the table and chatted. It’s fun living near family.

Today I taught 5th grade and it was a good day. The kids were cute and fun and the lessons were interesting. What has been so surprising to me is how culturally diverse Orlando is. Who knew?
Today in my class I had 3 super cute little girls from India. They reminded me of Andrea. Their English was good and they were all very sweet. When they sat by themselves chatting it was not in English though. There were two boys from China. Also very nice and polite. A bunch of kids from Brazil. (Like 8-9). Some spoke English, some spoke it not at all. All the kids were very nice.
The way this school does 5th grade is team teaching with another teacher so I had language arts and history twice with 2 groups. Both with similar ethnic makeups. Then they have a focus group for about 45 minutes in the middle of the day. The kids are divided by learning needs. My group was 20+ kids, all Brazilian, who are just learning English.
It was an interesting and enjoyable day for me. The only hard part is they have a strict no physical contact rule for subs. Like you can’t even tie their shoes or give high fives. I get the caution but come on:(
At recess a cute little girl from activity days ran up to say hi! She went in for the hug and I had to tell her no no! Hug me on Sunday but here at school I’m not allowed. We can air high five though. (Lame) She agreed to find me Sunday and we chatted for a minute.
At the end of the day we were in the cafeteria waiting for the car riders to be dismissed when two of the boys I had taught that day ran up (but I didn’t see them coming) and grabbed me around the waist and said “tell my teacher we want you to come back whenever she is gone” so super cute and sweet. I had to keep my arms up and tell them thanks that I’d love to and to have a nice weekend while being super awkward. I hate that.

Rob and I went to Chevy’s tonight. We hadn’t been since MD and it was very tasty!
